Original Watercolour Cuckmere (The Stories it Would Tell 3)

“Cuckmere (The Stories it Would Tell: 3)”

Katy was inspired by the clay and chalk landscape of the Cuckmere Valley, where the South Downs meets the sea.

A black headed gull and little egret are melded with the landscape, demonstrating the symbiotic relationship between the wildlife and unique landscape of this area of the downs.

There is a gentle nod to the historic human relationship with the South Downs, through the inclusion of the WW2 pillbox positioned along the meander and sheep upon the chalk downs.

This piece is reminiscent of days spent exploring the meanders, escarpments and beach of Cuckmere.

Created using watercolour on 250gsm watercolour paper with a textural finish.

A3 Painting

The piece is double mounted in Larson Juhl mount board and finished in a handmade oak frame with tru-vue conservation quality glass.

During weekends in September 2024, this original work can be viewed at the Surrealism Exhibition at Lewes Depot in East Sussex.
